India Tour Drives 50,000-Plus Ticket Sales Ahead of New Zealand Series

More than 50,000 tickets have been sold for India's New Zealand tour, with several matches nearing sell-outs. Strong demand has also prompted Eden Park to open its sixth seating tier for the first time since 2019.

The marquee India tour has driven strong ticket demand in New Zealand, with more than 50,000 tickets sold since sales opened just over two weeks ago, New Zealand Cricket (NZC) confirmed.

Commercially the most viable team in world cricket, India will visit New Zealand after a gap of six years to play five T20Is, five ODIs and two Test matches.

According to a press release, ticket sales opened to the public on Monday following a two-week pre-sale window for Cricket Nation members, Sky customers and ANZ customers. Several matches are on track to sell out, including the second T20I against India in Christchurch, which is already 75% sold out.

High demand at Eden Park has also prompted the stadium to open its sixth tier of seating for the first time since India's 2019 tour of New Zealand. The upper level will be available for the fourth T20I against India on Friday, October 30.

NZC Head of Marketing Tim Ellis said momentum for the tour was continuing to build.

“Being able to open up the top level of Eden Park for the first time in years is really exciting and speaks to the swell of excitement building around the tour. Matches at Hagley Oval have always been well attended but to have one of them over three quarters sold already is quite remarkable,” Ellis was quoted as saying in the release.

“We're deep into planning for a number of events surrounding the tour and have some exciting at-game activations in the works that we're confident will deliver a great experience for fans of all ages,” he added.

With more than 50,000 tickets already sold and several matches nearing capacity, the demand has underlined the commercial appeal surrounding India's return to New Zealand for the five T20Is, five ODIs and two Test matches.
